Westfield Sydney Leverages the Wilson Connectivity Architecture

Westfield Sydney, an exclusive shopping destination in downtown Sydney, reopened in 2010 after extensive redevelopment. The Westfield Group partnered with Wilson Connectivity to implement a state-of-the-art 5G cellular network using the Zinwave Active Distributed Antenna System (DAS) platform. This wideband in-building wireless system accommodated multiple services from three commercial carriers and Westfield’s own Private Mobile Radio (PMR) system on a single hardware layer.

Shoppers now enjoy uninterrupted high-speed cellular service throughout the 88,000 square-meter retail space, enhancing their ability to compare prices, read reviews, and share their experiences on social media in real-time. 

The robust 5G network supports augmented realities (AR) applications, allowing customers to virtually try on clothes or visualize furniture in their homes before purchasing. And retailers can now send targeted, location-based promotions to customers’ smartphones as they move through the center.

The integrated PMR system on the 5G network has significantly improved staff coordination and response times to customer inquiries and security issues. Real-time inventory tracking and automated restocking systems are now possible, reducing out-of-stock incidents and improving overall inventory efficiency. High-definition security cameras with AI-powered facial recognition are now operational, enhancing safety and loss prevention efforts.
